Lok Sabha Elections: Political temperatures remain high amidst claims, personal attacks

Political mudslinging between the BJP-led NDA and the rival INDIA bloc continues after the Lok Sabha Elections

Political rivalry among leaders of various parties is still at its peak even after voting for the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections with claims and counter-claims of winning the polls and mocking each other doing rounds.

In one such incident during an interview to a news channel, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying the latter listens to him on his looks as he shaves off or grows a beard.

The Assam chief minister said when he talked about Rahul Gandhi’s look during the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in 2022, and compared him with former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, the Congress leader shaved off soon after that.

Following which Sarma claimed his former colleague Rahul Gandhi looked like an ‘Amul boy’ when he is clean-shaved.

“Coincidentally, as soon as I said that Rahul Gandhi looked like Saddam Hussein, he shaved off his beard. And after shaving off his beard, when I said that he looked like the Amul Boy, he grew a light beard… Rahul Gandhi do listen to my advice,” the Assam chief minister was quoted as saying.

The BJP leader further criticised the Wayanad Congress MP by claiming that the Constitution book that the latter has often been seen displaying at his public rallies during the just concluded Lok Sabha elections was not the Indian Constitution.

“If the Lal Kitab shown by Rahul Gandhi in his rallies is actually the Constitution of India, then why is the Congress against the UCC? Baba Saheb’s Constitution says to implement the UCC, but the Congress manifesto says that they will bring Sharia law. So, I doubt whether that book is our Constitution or not,” he said, adding Indian Constitution has a blue cover and it needed to be verified if Rahul Gandhi was carrying a Chinese Constitution.

In other such incident, Rahul Gandhi has termed exit polls as ‘Modi Media Poll’, questioning their prediction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi forming the next government at the centre.

“It’s not ban exit poll, it’s a Modi media poll. It’s his fantasy poll,” he told reporters.

Both the NDA and the INDIA bloc have been claiming victory in the just concluded elections.

The Counting of votes will take place on June 4.
