World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma jumps closer to Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli in ODI ranking

Indian cricket team’s captain, Rohit Sharma, showcased a spectacular return to form in the ongoing World Cup 2023, scoring a phenomenal 131 runs against Afghanistan and a powerful 86 runs against Pakistan. This outstanding performance has significantly impacted his ICC ODI rankings, propelling him from 11th to an impressive 6th position.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the latest rankings on Wednesday, October 18, reflecting Sharma’s remarkable jump. David Malan, who exhibited outstanding performances for England in the World Cup, secured the 8th position with 711 points.

The modern-day master, Virat Kohli, shares the same number of points and holds the 9th position. Topping the list is Babar Azam with 836 points, closely followed by Shubman Gill at the second spot with 818 points.

Trent Boult gives competition to Hazlewood

In the bowling department, Trent Boult, making a stellar comeback in the ODI World Cup after an extended break from professional cricket, showcased exceptional performance, garnering accolades and boosting his rankings. Boult has effectively challenged Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood, who previously held the top position.

Hazlewood now stands at 660 points, while Boult secured the second position with 659 points. India’s rising star, Mohammad Siraj, stands strong in the third position with 656 points. Notably, India’s Kuldeep Yadav claimed the eighth position in the top 10 rankings.
