Shubman Gill’s love for 7 number

A particularly interesting moment in the conversation was when he discussed his jersey number. Gill mentioned that during the U19 World Cup, he had wanted the number 7 jersey, but it was unavailable. As a result, he chose to combine two 7s in his jersey number. It’s worth noting that the number seven jersey was famously worn by former Indian captain and two-time World Cup winner, MS Dhoni.

The conversation shifted towards Gill’s personal life and family. He revealed that, after every match, whether India wins or loses, his first call is always to his father. In his household, Gill is affectionately called ‘kaka,’ which means ‘baby’ in Punjabi. He emphasized that the one thing he cannot live without is his family.

In his World Cup debut against arch-rivals Pakistan, he started aggressively but was dismissed for 16 runs in 10 balls. Gill made a strong comeback in the next game against Bangladesh, scoring a sublime 53, but couldn’t maintain the momentum against New Zealand and England, registering low scores of 26 and nine, respectively. In four innings, Gill managed to accumulate 104 runs. With India in a comfortable position in the World Cup, Gill is determined to give his best in the upcoming match against Sri Lanka in Mumbai.
