Ibrahim Zadran shapes Afghanistan’s total
Despite losing his opening partner Rahmat Shah in the eighth over of the contest, Zadran continued to build partnerships and contributed 83 runs for the second wicket. He played a crucial role in guiding Afghanistan towards a competitive total, avoiding unnecessary risks and capitalizing on loose deliveries from the Australian bowlers.
Zadran reached his half-century on the fifth ball of the 18th over with a fortunate boundary, as a delivery from Australia’s Mitchell Starc found the outside edge of his bat, evading the wicketkeeper and resulting in a four. He reached his century on the last delivery of the 44th over, achieving this historic milestone with a well-placed shot into the cover region, completing a quick double.
Milestones for Zadran
At the age of 21 years and 330 days, Zadran also became the fourth youngest player in ODI World Cup history to score a century. He accelerated towards the end of the innings, launching an attack on the Australian bowlers in partnership with Rashid Khan (35* off 18 balls). This partnership helped Afghanistan reach a total of 291 runs in their allotted 50 overs.
Ibrahim Zadran concluded his remarkable innings with an unbeaten 129* off 143 balls, including eight fours and three sixes, at a strike rate of 90.20.
