Asian Games 2022: Men’s kabaddi final suspended after heated argument

The teams were locked 28-28 with less than 2 minutes left in the game when Indian captain Pawan Kumar went on a raid and was tackled by the Iran defence

Asian Games 2022: In an unfortunate turn of events, the final of the men’s kabaddi competition between India and Iran at the Asian Games 2022 was suspended after a rather prolonged altercation involving the match officials and players and and coaching staff from both teams.

The teams were locked 28-28 with less than 2 minutes left in the game when Indian captain Pawan Kumar went on a raid and was tackled by the Iran defence.

However, during the tackle, Pawan managed to land in the lobby area of the court along with a couple of Iran players.

This started a heated debate over the number of points that should be awarded to both teams. With neither team ready to back down, play was held up for close to half an hour before the officials decided to suspend the match.

India has enjoyed its most successful outing at the continental multi-sports event. The Indian medals tally at the Asian Games 2022 has now reached a historic high of 100. The  Indian tally includes 25 gold, 35 silver and 40 bronze medals.
