Disappointed Rashid Khan praises Afghanistan after T20 World Cup exit

Rashid Khan exits the field after Afghanistan lost the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinal to South Africa on June 27.

Rashid Khan publicly stated his dissatisfaction on June 27 after Afghanistan’s lopsided semifinal loss to South Africa at the T20 World Cup. He pointed out the difficult circumstances that affected their performance and highlighted how erratic T20 cricket can be.

“As team, it was difficult. Although the circumstances prevented us from achieving our goals, we could have performed better. That’s the nature of Twenty20 cricket; you have to be prepared for anything,” Rashid Khan told the media after the match.

The spinner thinks his team has gained lot of knowledge from this competition even after losing in the T20 World Cup semifinal.

“For us, this is just the beginning; we are capable of defeating any opposition. We just must maintain our procedures. For us, this has been fantastic learning opportunity.  The belief is what we take away from the competition. We just need to manage challenging and stressful situations. We know we have the abilities,” Rashid Khan asserted.

“Yes, some work needs to be done in order to extend the innings, particularly in the middle order. Although we have had success thus far, we intend to return and put in even more effort, particularly in the batting department.”

Talking abouth South Africa’s performance in the semifinal, the Afghanistan skipper said, “they bowled pretty well, in my opinion. We had great tournament, in my opinion, since the seamers bowled exceptionally effectively. You must have a strong start.”
