New Delhi: Indian boxer Nishant Dev has taken another step forward in what is shaping up to be a promising professional boxing career.
The 24-year-old from Haryana won his second professional fight by defeating Josue Silva via unanimous decision (60-54) in the Super Welterweight division at the iconic Madison Square Garden Theatre in New York.
Nishant, who was competing in an undercard bout of the Richardson Hitchins versus George Kambosos fight at Madison Square Garden Theatre, dominated the fight from start to finish, going on to register his second professional victory in as many bouts.
The pugilist, who turned professional recently, won the very first bout on his pro boxing debut in January this year, defeating Alton Wiggins with a knockout in the opening round.
That bout match was part of the undercard for the Diego Pacheco vs. Steve Nelson fight at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas on January 25.
Nishant had produced a creditable performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, although he narrowly missed out on a medal after losing a close bout to Marco Verde of Mexico in the quarterfinals.
A bronze medallist at the 2023 World Championships in the men’s light middle-weight (71kg) division, Dev has been one of India’s most consistent boxers in recent years.
Nishant will next be in action in July in an undercard fight in Dallas.
