IPL 2024: Head coach Justin Langer stated on Thursday that pace sensation Mayank Yadav, who is still recovering from hip discomfort, is not expected to participate in the next two Indian Premier League (IPL) games for the Lucknow Super Giants.
On Friday, LSG take on Delhi Capitals , then on April 14, they go to Kolkata for the away game. Before the home game against the Chennai Super Kings on April 19, Langer and Co. are hopeful that Mayank regains full fitness.
“It is the intention to have Mayank ready for the April 19 encounter against the Chennai Super Kings. On the eve of the game versus DC, Langer stated, “We want him to play every game if possible.”
“But he’s going to work for it; he’s putting in a lot of effort every day to be prepared for our upcoming game. It’s unlikely that he will play these two games given the tight turnaround, thus he won’t play tomorrow. He is, nevertheless, making every effort to play whenever he can.”

On his IPL debut, Mayank Yadav became an overnight sensation by consistently bowling over 150 kmph. On Sunday, he left the field after bowling just one over against the Gujarat Titans.
“He felt a little bit of tightness at the top of his hip leading into the last game, but that was about a one-out-of-ten pain, and we thought that they were clinical signs,” Langer explained.
“Everything that came from the physiotherapists and doctors seemed to be in order. After bowling the first over (against the Titans), he began to have hip pain. However, there is a very tiny enlargement there that was discovered during an MRI. Thus, we have high hopes that he will begin to strengthen and return to bowling soon,” the former Australian opener stated.
Left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan, who has missed the team’s last two games owing to injury, also received a health update from Langer.
“He was experiencing a mild disc flare-up in his back. We hold great importance in him and Mayank. He has received every treatment; having a top-notch medical team is a great asset. He mentioned that he was bowling in the middle today,” Langer said.
“He might be available tomorrow, but we’ll probably be focusing on the Kolkata game, where having that extra pace will be helpful. Hopefully, this happens. Nevertheless, he’s headed in the right direction; let’s hope.”
