Bollywood actor Govinda reportedly canceled his account on the social media platform Twitter after coming under severe criticism for a post about the communal violence in Haryana.
He has posted an update on Instagram, alleging that his Twitter account had been hacked. In a video uploaded to Instagram, Govinda claimed that neither he nor his team had tweeted. He continued by saying he would report the incident to the cyber crime cell.
The Twitter handle going by the name @govindaahuja21 – which allegedly belongs to Govinda – tweeted about the recent communal violence in the Nuh and Gurugram districts of Haryana.
Govinda stated in an Instagram post that he has not used the handle in a very long time and that it is unverified.
In his Instagram video, Govinda said: “Please do not attribute this Haryana tweet to me. I haven’t done this. Somebody has hacked my account. I am just doing a complaint to cyber-crime now. I’ll look into the matter.”
He continued in Hindi (translated): “To my all well-wishers, fans in Haryana, I want to tell you that I haven’t used this Twitter account for years. My team has also denied any responsibility for this tweet. They won’t tweet anything without asking me. I’ll give this matter to cyber-crime. They’ll look into the matter.”
Govinda signed off the video with these words, “As election season is approaching, some people have thought I might stand for a party. So, they might have tweeted this but I’ve never done such things. I never express my views on such matters.”
It seems that Govinda responded on Twitter to a message that included a video purporting to depict Muslim-owned businesses being attacked in Gurugram. The supposedly Govinda tweet has since been deleted.
After a mob attempted to disrupt a Vishva Hindu Parishad rally in adjacent Nuh, communal confrontations erupted this week in Gurugram. Mosques and retail establishments have been the victims of arson and vandalism.
Throughout his career, Govinda has been regarded as one of the top actors. Aunty No. 1, Pardesi Babu, Raju Pardesi, Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain, Hadh Kar Di Aapne, and Joru Ka Ghulam are some of his best-known films. His last sighting was in Rangeela Raja.
