Haryana: Aravalli jungle safari to boost ecotourism, conservation efforts

The Haryana government aspires to have the Aravalli Jungle Safari project inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Gurugram: Haryana Environment, Forest, and Wildlife Minister Rao Narbir Singh has announced an ambitious plan to transform the Aravalli region into a hub of ecotourism through the proposed Jungle Safari Project and Aravalli Green Wall Project.

These initiatives aim to promote sustainable tourism, conserve biodiversity, and generate employment for local communities.

Speaking to the media, Narbir Singh emphasized the ecological and economic significance of the initiative. “The central government has entrusted Haryana with the responsibility of implementing the Aravalli Green Wall Project and Jungle Safari, which will be a milestone from an environmental perspective,” he said.

The Aravalli mountain range, considered the oldest in India, spans across Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Delhi, covering approximately 1.15 million hectares. The proposed projects are designed to revitalize this ecologically sensitive region by enhancing forest cover, conserving wildlife habitats, and improving environmental health, the minister said.

Singh highlighted that, in the context of increasing climate change and pollution, environmental conservation has become a pressing global concern. “Only by being sensitive towards nature and wildlife can we maintain ecological balance,” he said, adding that the involvement of young startups and private institutions in wildlife conservation is playing a key role in supporting government initiatives.

Originally under the jurisdiction of the Tourism Department, the project has now been assigned to the Forest Department, following directives from Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

Minister Singh also revealed that he has personally reviewed successful models such as the Gorewada Safari in Nagpur and the Vantara Project in Gujarat.

As part of the Aravalli Green Wall initiative, efforts will be made toward afforestation using indigenous plant species, improving soil quality, recharging groundwater, and preserving biodiversity.

Furthermore, the project is expected to generate green employment opportunities for local youth, who will be engaged as ‘Van Mitras’ (Friends of the Forest), contributing actively to environmental conservation and forest management.

“This move positions Haryana as a rising center for ecotourism and reinforces the state’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship,” the minister said.
