Jammu and Kashmir: 3 Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists arrested in Srinagar

The Resistance Front (TRF), a proscribed terrorist organisation and a branch of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), was allegedly linked to three terrorist affiliates who were apprehended by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday in Srinagar’s Natipora neighbourhood.

The group was “planning to carry out terrorist activities” in Srinagar city, the police said in a statement.

The accused was found to have three hand grenades, ten handgun ammunition, twenty-five AK-47 rounds, and other evidence by the police.

A group of police officers from Srinagar made the arrests.

Imran Ahmad Najar, a resident of Bulbul Bagh, Baramulla; Waseem Ahmad Matta, a resident of Qamarwari, Srinagar; and Wakeel Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Pazalpora, Bijbehara, were also named as the terrorists who had been apprehended by the police.

“A small team of Srinagar Police arrested three terrorist associates linked with proscribed terror outfit TRF, an offshoot of proscribed terror outfit LeT in Natipora area of Srinagar,” the Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a statement.

Jammu and Kashmir Police acted after getting intelligence inputs

According to the statement, a team of Srinagar police set up a checkpoint at Hannibal Natipora after receiving a tip. They then detained the accused trio.

Before being released from Central Jail on bail, Wakeel Ahmad Bhat spent two years in jail as an active terrorist with ties to the outlawed Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) organisation, according to the police.

According to the police, they learned during their first inquiries that the trio had obtained explosives and ammunition from TRF terrorists who were still active in order to “carry out terrorist activities in Srinagar city.”

At the Chanapora police station, a case was filed against the three suspected terrorists under sections 3, 4, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, as well as sections 18, 23, and 25 of the Arms Act.

“Further investigation is underway in the case,” police said.
