The Indian Army opened fire on a group of infiltrators on Monday after observing suspicious activity along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor and Sunderbani sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials, the Indian Army opened fire in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district and the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district after observing suspicious movement of two groups of infiltrators along the Line of Control (LoC).
“There were no gunfire exchanges in these locations. To make sure that no infiltrator is able to enter our side of the LoC, a thorough search operation has been launched at both locations,” Indian Army officials told the media.
There have been allegations of a group of hardline foreign mercenaries in J&K, along the 740-kilometer LoC and the 1216-kilometer International Border. As a result, a high alert has been maintained throughout the hilly districts of Jammu division.
To tackle terrorism, the Indian Army has deployed nearly 4,000 soldiers in the Jammu division, including highly skilled mountain warriors and members of the elite Para commandos. These soldiers have been stationed in the hilly areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Reasi, and Udhampur alongside the CRPF’s forces.
Furthermore, in an effort to reduce the terrorists’ hiding places, automatic weapons and other logistical and strategic support are being provided to village defense committees (VDCs), which are made up of civilian volunteers who resist terrorism.
Terrorists have attacked bystanders, paramilitary troops, and members of the Indian Army with hit-and-run maneuvers.

The Jammu division’s rocky, rough mountainous regions have been the target of most of these attacks, as terrorists like to vanish into heavily forested and foliage-covered areas close to the attack site. Large-scale cordon and search operations are conducted in these locations virtually daily in an attempt to track down the terrorists.
More than fifty individuals who are thought to be terrorists’ over-ground workers (OGWs), sympathizers, and harborers have been taken into custody. It has been admitted by at least two of these individuals that they were with the terrorists during the terror strikes.
