On Wednesday, the Delhi Police made allegations that Prabir Purkayastha, the founder of NewsClick, had worked with a Shanghai-based business to spread the myth that Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh are disputed areas.

According to Delhi Police, these individuals’ actions reflect their plan to spread a myth that Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh are contentious on a national and international level.

“Their attempts to tinker with the northern borders of India and to show Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh as not parts of India in maps amount to an act intended towards undermining the unity and territorial integrity of India,” said Delhi Police.

According to the accusers, they also planned to stop supplies and services that are necessary for survival as well as to aid in the damage and destruction of property by prolonging farmer demonstrations with such unlawful foreign funding.

According to Delhi Police, Prabir Purkayastha allegedly planned to sabotage the 2019 general elections by working with an organisation called People’s Alliance for Democracy and Secularism (PADS).

“People’s Dispatch Portal, owned and maintained by M/S PPK Newsclick Studio Pvt Ltd was used for intentionally peddling these false narratives through paid news in lieu of crores of rupees of illegally routed foreign funds as part of a conspiracy,” said the police in Court while seeking Prabir Purkayastha and Human Resources Head of the news portal NewsClick, Amit Chakravarty’s remand.
