West Bengal Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Suvendu Adhikari expressed on Sunday that Sandeshkhali would be pivotal in determining the fate of the BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
“Sandeshkhali alone can change the equation in the entire Lok Sabha election. We are expecting a lead of at least one lakh votes from Sandeshkhali alone,” he said while addressing a meeting organised by BJP in Sandeshkhali along with State Party President Sukanta Majumdar.
Sandeshkhali has been the site of protests by local women, who have raised allegations of sexual harassment and violence against certain local leaders affiliated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party.
The Leader of the Opposition stated that the people of West Bengal are poised to deliver a resounding response to the Trinamool Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. “The verdict will be farewell to the corrupt Trinamool Congress,” Adhikari said.
Meanwhile, Majumdar mocked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her frequent characterization of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an “outsider.” “The Prime Minister is a genuine Bengali since he knows how to respect the women of Bengal,” Majumdar said.
In response to the TMC’s list of Lok Sabha candidates, which was announced earlier on Sunday, BJP’s Rajya Sabha member Samik Bhattacharya stated that the ruling party in the state is devoid of ideology and political substance.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) secured victory in 22 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 18 seats. Additionally, the Congress managed to win two seats. The TMC’s tally was lower compared to the 2014 general elections when the Mamata Banerjee-led party had secured victories in 34 out of the 42 seats.
Moreover, the TMC on Sunday morning had announced that the West Bengal Chief Minister will not engage in any seat adjustments with the Congress in West Bengal as part of the INDIA alliance.
