A special court was informed by the primary suspect in the rape and murder case of a junior doctor in a Kolkata hospital that he desired to undergo a lie-detector test in order to ensure that “the truth comes out,” the suspect’s attorney told the media.
Sanjay Roy, the main suspect, was given permission to undergo a polygraph (lie-detector) test yesterday by a special court in Kolkata.
Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and four other medical professionals who were on duty the night the junior doctor’s body was discovered in the hospital’s seminar hall were already scheduled to undergo lie-detector tests, as approved by the court.
When asked by the court if Sanjay Roy was prepared for the polygraph, the counsel for Roy said, “Yes.”
And according to this lawyer, Sanjay Roy said he was “innocent” and had been “framed” when the judge questioned him about why he was prepared.
“I also want the polygraph test to reveal the truth,” the attorney declared, paraphrasing Sanjay Roy.
Officials added that Sanjay Roy and the other six people started having lie detector tests today.
Sanjay Roy took the polygraph test while he was incarcerated, and the other participants did so at the Kolkata Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office.
Sandip Ghosh visited the CBI headquarters in Salt Lake, Kolkata, this morning for the ninth time in a row. Two first-year postgraduate students, whose fingerprints were discovered inside the seminar hall, are among those undergoing the lie-detection exam.
To administer the tests, a group of experts in polygraph testing from Delhi’s Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) was transported to Kolkata.
On Thursday, the CBI informed the Supreme Court that the junior doctor’s murder and rape had been attempted to be covered up by the police. The crime scene had changed by the time the CBI took over the investigation, according to the agency.
On August 9, early in the morning, the body of the junior doctor, who had serious injuries, was discovered inside the hospital’s chest department lecture hall. The next day, Sanjay Roy was taken into custody.
An hour after midnight, before the woman’s death was discovered in the morning, Sanjay Roy was seen entering the hospital, according to a CCTV screen grab made public by the investigators. An further item seen on camera is the suspect’s Bluetooth earpiece wrapped around his neck.
