External affairs minister S. Jaishankar met a congressional delegation from the US on Wednesday to discuss the changes taking place in India. The two parties discussed how to strengthen their bilateral relationship with the US and India.
Jaishankar and the US congressional delegation discussed cooperation between India and the US on multilateral, regional, and international issues during the discussion. Congressman Shri Thanedar, US Congressman Richard McCormick, and Congressman Ro Khanna, all of Indian descent, were part of the delegation.

Discussed the transformation underway in India, especially its outcomes of better governance. Shared our aspirations and expectations for Amritkaal. Also exchanged views on our advancing bilateral partnership. Shared perspectives on the global situation and our collaboration on multilateral, regional and global issues,” Jaishankar said in a statement on social media.
Richard McCormick, a member of the American congressional delegation visiting India, stated earlier in the day that he was looking forward to meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
There has never been a better opportunity to build these partnerships, McCormick said in praising PM Modi’s recent trip to the US.
“I believe there has never been a better time to cultivate these connections. The visit by Prime Minister Modi, who has gone to America twice, was noteworthy. That’s different. visiting the country with the largest democracy in the world. And now that we’re here in force, we’ll have a bipartisan group of legislators to continue forging this connection, which I believe will be crucial in the future,” McCormick told the media.
The congressman stressed the value of forging solid ties when discussing the US-India relationship and Chinese concerns.
“considering our long history of working together, we continue to build confidence, but as we face the next wave of threats—especially considering our proximity to China and other nations—this is going to be different. building a solid partnership in all areas, including military, economics, and strategy, so that we may continue to trust one another,” McCormick said.
Two members of the American congressional delegation had earlier on Monday visited the Western Naval Command, the Indian Navy’s sword arm, in Mumbai. Representatives RO Khanna and Deborah Ross were part of the team, while Vikram Krishnamoorthy, the undersecretary of India’s ministry of external affairs, was also there.
The group spoke with Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, AVSM, NM, Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command (WNC), as well as other Flag and senior officers of the Command, according to a statement issued by the Indian Navy.
The group was given a presentation on the functions, duties, and activities of WNC during their visit, and they were also given a tour of the local destroyer INS Kochi. Additionally, the party went to Mazgaon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd., where they learned about the local shipbuilding capabilities of MDL.
