NEET UG Paper Leak: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and sought its response on aspirants seeking fresh National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) undergraduate (UG) examination 2024 after reports of alleged paper leak and irregularities in the examination conducted.
“Sanctity has been affected, we need answers,” the apex court’s vacation bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah said, after the petition demanding re-test filed by 10 candidates.
The Supreme Court also refused to stay the counselling process for admissions in MBBS, BDS, and other courses for successful candidates.
“We will not stop the counselling. If you argue further, we will dismiss this,” the court said.
The Supreme Court will hear the NEET UG paper leak issue further on July 8, it was reported.
The candidates who demanded re-test alleged that NEET-UG, 2024, was riddled with malpractices, as they had found out of various instances of paper leaks.
The NTA conducts NEET-UG examination every year for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions across India.
This year, the examination was held on May 5, and the results were declared on June 4.
A few petitions have also been filed in the apex court over the NTA’s decision to award grace marks to several candidates in the NEET-UG 2024 examination.
The SC’s remarks followed as scores of NEET aspirants have staged protests across the country, alleging paper leak and other irregularities observed in this year’s NEET results.
The inflation of marks for 1,543 students from six centres who “lost time during exams” has resulted in an unprecedented 67 candidates achieving a perfect score of 720 out of 720.
The issue has further raised eyebrows as six of these toppers emerged from the same centre in Haryana’s Jhajjar.
Meanwhile, the NTA set up a committee to review the grace marks awarded to NEET UG 2024 candidates.
