India vs West Indies: At the conclusion of day three of play at Port of Spain on Sunday, India had a firm hold on the second Test with two wickets each from Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj, while West Indies had shown some grit in their struggle to overturn a significant run disadvantage.
West Indies finished day three with a score of 229/5, with Alick Athanaze (37*) and Jason Holder (11*) unbeaten at the crease.
With Jermaine Blackwood (16*) and Alick Athanaze (13*) at the crease, West Indies began the fourth session at 174/3.
Jadeja struck on the third ball of the session, dismissing Blackwood for 20 after Rahane had caught him at slips.
West Indies scored 200 runs in just 94.3 overs. To surpass India’s 239 runs, they still needed to score 239 runs.
The first success came from fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, who dismissed wicketkeeper Joshua de Silva for just ten. West Indies were at 208/5 at the time with half of their batting line-p back in the pavilion.
Together, Holder and Athanaze helped West Indies bat out the rest of the session without losing a wicket.
The West Indies were in a commanding position at the conclusion of the second session of day three of the ongoing second Test against India at Port of Spain on Saturday thanks to a half-century from captain Kraig Braithwaite.
West Indies had reached 174/3 at tea, with Jermaine Blackwood (16*) and Alick Athanaze (13*) both still standing at the wicket.
Braithwaite (49*), who was undefeated at the end of the day’s play, had West Indies at 117/2 at the beginning of the second session. Blackwood joined him. Braithwaite reached his half-century early during the session.
Braithwaite along with his vice-captain continued to rebuild the innings, bringing up the 150-run mark in 68.1 overs.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who ended Braithwaite’s long performance of 75 in 235 balls, consisting of five fours and a six, ended the duo’s partnership.
Athanaze then joined Blackwood, and the two of them saw West Indies through the rest of the session without losing any wickets.
When the opening session ended, the hosts were at 117/2, with Braithwaite (49*) remaining not out.
Kirk Mckenzie (14*) and Kraigg Braithwaite (37*) were the day’s opening odds for the West Indies, both of whom remained unbeaten at the end of the third day’s play.
The pair kept scoring runs, reaching the 100-run milestone in 44.5 overs.
Kirk was dismissed for 32 after being caught by wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan on the final ball of the session, giving debutant pacer Mukesh Kumar his first Test wicket. West Indies was at 117/2 at the time.
India was dismissed for 438 in their first innings. Virat’s century (121) and fifties by skipper Rohit Sharma (80), Yashasvi Jaiswal (57), Ravindra Jadeja (61) and Ravichandran Ashwin (56) proved to be instrumental in taking India to a massive total.
Jomel Warrican (3/89) was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies. Kemar Roach (3/104) and Jason Holder (2/57) also were among the wickets for the Windies.
