Next month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make his first trip to Ukraine since Russia invaded the country in 2022. This occurs one month following a meeting between PM Modi and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine during the G7 Summit in Italy.
As they met, the two leaders were seen giving each other hugs.
Zelensky had congratulated Prime Minister Modi on winning a third term in the Lok Sabha elections and extended an invitation for him to visit the war-torn nation on that very day. PM Modi reaffirmed the country’s people-centric approach and called for communication and diplomacy to resolve the ongoing crisis during a phone conversation with President Zelenskyy in March of this year. They also talked about measures to deepen the connection between India and Ukraine.

The prime minister declared that India would keep using all of its resources to help find a peaceful resolution.
Since the start of the conflict, India has insisted that diplomacy and discussion are the only ways to end it, and the prime minister has declared that “India is ready to contribute to any peace efforts.” Earlier this month, PM Modi also made a two-day trip to Moscow.
In his meeting with President Putin, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that there was no military solution to the conflict.
“India has consistently advocated for upholding the territorial integrity and sovereignty guaranteed by the United Nations Charter. A solution does not exist in the battlefield. The best course of action is diplomacy and dialogue,” PM Modi had stated.
