Former Indian captain and stalwart batter Virat Kohli was adjudged with the best fielder medal by the fielding coach T Dilip. Virat Kohli was on the song against Australia in their opening game of the World Cup 2023 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Kohli took two catches, including a spectacular dive to dismiss Marsh off Bumrah’s bowling. Kohli then grabbed a key catch off Zampa, courtesy of Pandya’s bowling.

Apart from Kohli, Shreyas Iyer also contributed to the field, he also grabbed two stunning catches. Iyer’s diving efforts removed Cummins, followed by a swift-running catch to halt Starc’s brief onslaught.

Rahul Dravid, Team India Head Coach said in the video posted by The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), ” A bit of change with the way we do things. Dilip will hand out the best fielder medal.
India’s fielding coach displayed the medal and said, ” At least we got this.”
“In today’s game, Ishan was outstanding, and Shreays was outstanding with his two catches. But something we keep speaking about our team is about consistency, it’s not about one catch,” Dilip added.
“It is about intensity, backing up. It’s not only doing your job but also making sure that you encourage and keep the right fielders in the right place. This one hoes to Virat,” He concluded.

With a radiant smile, Kohli walked up to Dilip for the medal, planting a kiss and graciously biting it in the final frame of the video.

India next outing against Afghanistan
India kicked off the World Cup 2023 on a high note as Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue defeated Australia by 6 wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Now India will travel to Delhi to face Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.
