As the world of cricket gears up for another epic battle, the players of these two cricket giants are all set to engrave fresh memories in the annals of cricket history. The eternal rivals are all set to lock horns once again on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

A rivalry steeped in years of tradition and passion, fans of both nations are eagerly anticipating the match, knowing that this encounter could produce another amazing moment that will forever be etched in cricketing folklore. The excitement is palpable and the stage is set for cricket as India and Pakistan renew their timeless rivalry on the grandest stage of all time.

1. 1998 Independence Cup final in Dhaka

Before that match, Team India had crossed the 300-run mark only twice in the form of 50 runs. However, on that momentous day, they wrote their third 300+ ODI against arch-rivals Pakistan, who went on to win the Independence Trophy. Pakistan launched 314 all out and gave India a huge challenge. When India started the chase, Sourav Ganguly led the runs in spectacular fashion and showcased his talent with a brilliant century.

65 were required from the last ten overs, so the race went to the finish line. The savior was Hrishikesh Kanitkar, who hit a last-ball boundary to earn India a three-wicket win.

2.  1996 World Cup quarter-final, Bengaluru

The 1996 World Cup quarter-final between India and Pakistan remains etched as a riveting contest filled with suspense and excitement. While it didn’t come down to the final ball, the match offered no shortage of thrills, leaving a lasting memory for fans.

Pakistan fought bravely chasing a target of 287 but eventually fell short by 39 runs. The match was an emotional rollercoaster that showed the intensity of the rivalry between India and Pakistan and the unpredictability of the game. It is moments like these that have cemented this match in the hearts of cricket lovers and secured a place in the Cricket Hall of Fame.

3. 1986, Australia-Asia Cup Final, Sharjah

Pakistan, led by Imran Khan, achieved one of the most remarkable victories in ODI history in the 1986 Australia-Asia Cup final against India. Javed Miandad scored a sublime century in Pakistan’s run chase in that match. To win the final, Miandad needed a memorable six to seal a thrilling one-wicket victory for his team. He went unbeaten at 116.

4. 2007, T20 WC Final, Johannesburg

The stage doesn’t get any bigger than that – the World Cup final and that too between India and Pakistan. They met in the final of the T20 World Cup held in 2007. First, India, led by MS Dhoni, posted a challenging total of 157. Chasing Pakistan into the final, needing 13 to win, India needed just one wicket to be crowned the inaugural T20 World Cup champions.

Pakistan’s Misbah-ul-Haq got his team in the lead after hitting the 20th over in the second ball. Needing a six off four balls, Misbah went to bowl over the short leg region but didn’t time his shot right. The ball went straight up and S Sreesanth took an easy catch to secure a thrilling five-run win for Team India.

5. 2022, T20 World Cup, Melbourne

Ravichandran Ashwin scored the winning runs on the last ball, but the T20 World Cup 2022 will always be remembered for Virat Kohli’s memorable knock at a difficult run. The former Indian captain was not out of the game as he scored an epic 82 off 53 balls. Two runs were needed to win the latter and India managed a thrilling victory by four wickets.
