Chosen to bat first, Warner, partnering with Travis Head, initiated a remarkable 175-run opening partnership for Australia. While Head achieved the distinction of scoring the third-fastest century in the current World Cup edition, taking just 59 deliveries for his 109 runs, the seasoned opener notched up his 54th ODI half-century in a mere 28 balls.

During his sublime innings, Warner achieved a significant milestone by surpassing Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli’s run tally of 1384 in ODI World Cup history. With a total of 1405 runs to his name, Warner now ranks as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament’s history. He sits behind legendary Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara (1532), fellow Australian great Ricky Ponting (1743), and the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar (2278). Warner’s contribution to the match included a splendid 81 runs from 65 balls, adorned with five fours and six towering sixes, before being dismissed by New Zealand spinner Glenn Phillips.

Warner’s incredible form in the World Cup has been consistent throughout the tournament. In Australia’s opening match against India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Warner displayed his prowess by scoring 41 runs off 52 balls. Although he faced a couple of forgettable outings, recording scores of 13 and 11 against South Africa and Sri Lanka, Warner’s resilience and determination shone through. The controversial LBW decision that sent him back to the pavilion during the Sri Lanka match seemed to have ignited a fire within him. Subsequently, he unleashed a spectacular innings, amassing a staggering 163 runs against Pakistan in Bengaluru, followed by a stylish 104 against the Netherlands in New Delhi. In six matches, Warner has accumulated 413 runs, making him an indispensable asset for Australia in providing explosive starts at the top of the order.
