England’s Middle-order batter Harry Brook has pulled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, starting from March 22, citing personal reasons.
Earlier in December 2023, Brook was signed by Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs 4 crore at the auctions. Brook is now the second English cricketer after Jason Roy to withdraw from the upcoming season of the cash-rich league due to personal reasons.
Meanwhile, a report published by Cricbuzz has highlighted the growing concern among IPL franchises due to the recurring trend of England players opting out of their commitments, citing personal reasons.
It further added that unanticipated and abrupt withdrawals are causing disruptions to the auction planning of multiple teams, prompting IPL franchises to contemplate discussing the matter with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
“Once players register for the auction, they should honour their commitment. Reneging on it is unprofessional, and the BCCI should address this,” a franchise official was quoted as saying in the report. Efforts to contact Delhi Capitals officials for comment were unsuccessful, as indicated in the report, and it appears they are in search of a replacement.
In the previous IPL season, Brook could only manage to gather 190 runs at a poor average of 21 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Earlier in January this year, Brook had also missed England’s Test tour of India citing personal reasons.
“Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men’s Test tour of India. He will not be returning to India,” the ECB had said on that development.

“The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space,” it added.
Notably, Delhi Capitals will kick-off their IPL 2024 campaign against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the newly built Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali on March 23 .
