FC Goa qualified for the playoffs of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 after a 3-3 draw against Punjab FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
The outcome of the contest did not result in victory for either team; however, the captivating nature of the game had such an impact that the spectators emerged as the ultimate and deserving winners on Monday night.
The Gaurs displayed superior offensive prowess against the Punjab FC defense for most of the first half. Goalkeeper Ravi Kumar was consistently called upon to make saves from various distances, showcasing his agility and skill in the game.

In the 24th minute, Noah executed a strategic play for Fernandes, who displayed adept shooting skills with velocity towards the goal; however, his attempt was thwarted by Ravi, the opposing player.

In a similar manner, Ravi consistently came to the aid of the team coached by Staikos Vergetis, and their forwards greatly appreciated this support during the latter part of the game.
In typical fashion, the dynamic trio of Madih Talal, Luka Majcen, and Wilmar Jordan Gil showcased their exceptional skills for Punjab FC in the attacking zone. Talal’s impressive display of control in evading a challenge from Raynier on the right touchline occurred nine minutes into the second half.
Majcen successfully scored in the 61st minute, made possible by Talal’s quick sprint down the right wing and precise cross, allowing the striker to secure a narrow lead. Noah successfully secured a goal for FC Goa by scoring a penalty kick in the 72nd minute, which was earned through the skillful play of Boris Singh inside the box.
The visitors’ brief moment of joy from the equaliser was short-lived as Juan Mera effortlessly scored a goal against a disorganized FC Goa defense. This was a stark contrast to the team’s previous performance, where they had only conceded 14 goals in the competition. Mera skillfully outmaneuvered the defense and scored, reclaiming the lead for his team.
In a crucial moment, the Gaurs secured a point needed for ISL playoff qualification when their key striker, Carlos Martinez, scored from a precise pass by Noah in the 84th minute of the match.
