Skipper Harmanpreet Singh led from the front with a hattrick as India humiliated Pakistan 10-2 in their Pool A clash in the men’s hockey competition at the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China on Saturday.
With four goals, Harmanpreet Singh led the team to victory. The other six goals came from Mandeep Singh (8′), Sumit (30′), Varun Kumar (41′, 54′), Shamsher Singh (46′), and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay (49′). Muhammad Khan (38′) and Abdul Rana (45′) both scored Pakistan’s two consolation goals.
With four wins in as many games, the victory allowed the Indian hockey team to firmly establish their leadership position at the top of Pool A standings. With nine points each, Japan and Pakistan are in second and third place, respectively.
This was the 180th men’s hockey match between India and Pakistan. India currently has 66 victories compared to Pakistan’s 82.
On Monday, India will take on Bangladesh in their final group match.
Pakistan hurled everything it had at India in the final few minutes, but Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh made a string of outstanding saves to secure the victory.
With this victory, India takes the top spot in Pool A with a perfect 4 out of 4 record.
