On Thursday, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved capital acquisition proposals totaling about Rs 7,800 crore as necessary.
The DAC has approved an AoN for the purchase and installation of an Electronic Warfare (EW) Suite on Mi-17 V5 Helicopters under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, which will improve the helicopters’ survivability and increase the effectiveness of the Indian Air Force. According to a formal announcement, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) will supply the EW Suite.
Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, presided over the DAC meeting.
The DAC has also given AoN permission to purchase ground-based autonomous systems for mechanised infantry and armoured regiments, which will allow for a number of activities like unmanned surveillance, logistic delivery of ammunition, gasoline, and spare parts, as well as casualty evacuation on the battlefield.
The DAC has also approved requests for the purchase of 7.62×51 mm Light Machine Guns (LMG) and Bridge Laying Tanks (BLT).
While the introduction of the LMG will improve the infantry forces’ fighting ability, the introduction of the BLT will allow the mechanised forces to move more quickly.
AoN has also been granted for the Project Shakti purchase of Ruggedized Laptops and Tablets for the Indian Army.
The press announcement said that only Indigenous vendors would be used for these procurements.
The DAC has given AoN for the purchase of weaponry for the helicopters in order to improve the operating capability of the Indian Navy’s MH-60R helicopters.
