To increase operational logistics flexibility, maintain remote stations, and cut down on last-mile delivery delays, the Indian Army has purchased logistic drones for high-altitude regions.
These drones will be reportedly deployed by the Indian Army along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China – specially in Ladakh – and at the LAC in Jammu and Kashmir against the Pakistan Army.
“We have also purchased Mini RPAS to increase surveillance capabilities in high altitude zones,” defence ministry officials told the media.
In the first three phases of the Indian Army’s emergency purchase authority, 68 projects totaling Rs 6,600 crore were signed. 49 projects totaling Rs 7,600 crores have been contracted as part of the fourth tranche. These projects cover a wide range of capabilities, including mobility solutions, communication systems, energy solutions, personal protective equipment, drones and counterdrones, weapons, and simulators.
Officials from the defence ministry claim that 34 projects costing over Rs 7000 crore are in the final stages of procurement. Unarmed aerial vehicle (UAV) launched Precision Guided missiles, loiter munitions, logistic & nano drones, counter-drones, automatic spectrum monitoring systems, etc. are just a few of the specialised technology being purchased.
