The visit of the chief of the Brazilian Navy to India from August 19 to 24 demonstrated the willingness of like-minded navy forces to work together on common concerns in maritime security, according to a statement from the Indian Defense Ministry.
According to a statement by the Defence Ministry (MoD), on Wednesday, Brazilian Navy Chief Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen and Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi held talks in New Delhi to strengthen maritime cooperation between the two BRICS states.
Chief Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen of the Brazilian Navy was given a ceremonial guard of honor at the South Block Lawns earlier in the day. According to MoD, he would also be meeting with members of the Indian defense sector at the Indian Navy’s Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) in Gurugram.
During the current tour, the Brazilian Navy Chief is also expected to meet with the National Maritime Security Coordinator and the Defence Secretary of India. He was scheduled to meet with Vice-Admiral Sanjay J Singh, the head of India’s Western Naval Command, in Mumbai after arriving in New Delhi.

The Brazilian envoy would also be touring India’s own warships and submarines, a naval dockyard, and the government-supported Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. The MoD statement, however, stated that the naval forces of Brazil and India collaborate in a number of ways, including operational exchanges, joint training, and other marine channels.
Olsen’s visit takes place concurrently with that of Russian Navy Chief Admiral Aleksandr Moiseev, who arrived in India on Monday for a four-day official visit
