Manipur Violence: Transnational conspiracy accused sent to 2-day NIA remand

Seiminlun Gangte, a defendant in a Manipur violence case, was remanded to two days of National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody until October 3 by Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Sunday.

The suspect was taken to Delhi after being taken into custody on Saturday in Manipur. He was transported on remand to Delhi.

Top leaders of several terrorist organisations are said to have planned a global conspiracy to “wage war against India” from bases in Bangladesh and Myanmar.

The accused was shown to Duty Magistrate Komal Garg, who remanded him.

For the purpose of conducting case research, the NIA filed an application and requested 10-day detention of the accused.

The Duty Magistrate questioned the jurisdiction during the hearing because it involved a particular act.

The public prosecutor then requested that incarceration be extended until Tuesday in order to present the accused to the special judge until May.

Under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and other statutes, the federal investigation agency has filed a complaint.

Seiminlun Gangte has reportedly been detained in connection with a transnational plot by terror group commanders headquartered in Bangladesh and Myanmar to wage war against the Government of India by taking advantage of the ongoing ethnic conflict in the State of Manipur.

On July 19, 2023, in New Delhi, the NIA suo moto filed the case.

According to reports, an investigation found that militant groups with bases in Myanmar and Bangladesh conspired with some militant leaders in India to commit acts of violence with the aim of dividing different ethnic groups and starting a war against the Indian government.

According to the agency, in order to fuel the ongoing ethnic unrest in Manipur, the terror leadership has been funding the purchase of weapons, ammunition, and other types of terrorist hardware from terrorist organisations operating in North Eastern States of India as well as across the border.

The NIA reported that more investigations into the case are ongoing.
