ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024: The West Indies and the United States are expected to host matches during the ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, an ICC group reportedly paid five of the USA’s nominated locations a visit this week.
For the first time ever, the countries places will play host to a global cricket competition. These include Lauderhill in Florida for warm-ups and tournament games, as well as Morrisville, Dallas, and New York.
The first season of Major League Cricket in the USA is currently being played in Morrisville and Dallas. However, these venues have not yet received the designation of international venues, which is required by ICC regulations.
The ICC, along with Cricket West Indies (CWI) and USA Cricket (USAC), will choose the host cities for the ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the upcoming months.
Using the ICC’s system of regional qualifiers, Ireland, Scotland, and Papua New Guinea qualified for the 20-team T20 World Cup this week. While PNG won the East Asia-Pacific Region Qualifier, Ireland and Scotland finished first and second, respectively, in the Europe Region Qualifier.
In the upcoming months, qualifiers from the regions of the Americas (for one seat), Africa (for two spots), and Asia (for two spots) will be decided.
The top eight teams from the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup—Australia, England, India, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka—as well as the hosts West Indies and the United States—had already qualified for the competition before the regional qualifying rounds. Based on where they were ranked in the T20I rankings, Afghanistan and Bangladesh qualified.
The first round of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 won’t be followed by Super 12s like it was in earlier tournaments.
The top two teams from each group advance to the Super 8s in the upcoming competition, which will feature 20 teams divided into four groups of five each. The top two teams from each group will play in the semi-finals after the Super 8 teams are divided into two groups of four each.
