The Indian women’s hockey team clinched the title at the Asian Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament on Sunday. They secured this victory by defeating Japan 4-0 in the final match. This is the second time India has won this title, with their previous win coming in 2016. The final match took place at the Marng Gomke AstroTurf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi, India.

In the final, India dominated the match, and their goals were scored by Sangeeta Kumari (17th minute), Neha (46th minute), Lalremsiami (57th minute), and Vandana Katariya (60th minute). The match started 50 minutes late due to artificial lighting issues. Despite Japan’s efforts, the Indian goalkeeper Savita Punia thwarted their attempts.

Savita Punia’s dependable goalkeeping
During the first quarter, India had control over the ball and earned several penalty shootouts, but Savita and the team managed to keep Japan from scoring. In the third quarter, India scored their second goal, and towards the end of the match, Lalremsiami and Vandana Katariya scored two more goals, sealing India’s victory.

The coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, Janneke Schopman, expressed her satisfaction with the team’s performance and mentioned that the fans who came to watch the match boosted the team’s morale. Captain Savita Punia also spoke about the match, stating that it felt great to win and that Japan played very well.
