AUS vs AFG World Cup 2023: Ibrahim Zadran breaks Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli’s record as he scores Afghanistan’s maiden WC hundred

Zadran achieved his maiden World Cup century at the age of 21 years and 330 days, surpassing the records of Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar in terms of age when they scored their first World Cup centuries.

In a crucial clash against Australia at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 7, young batter Ibrahim Zadran achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Afghanistan batter to score a century in an ODI World Cup. During this century, Zadran also surpassed Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar, making him the fourth youngest batter to hit an ODI World Cup century.

This remarkable achievement marked Zadran’s fifth ODI century and came at a crucial moment for his team. Zadran achieved his maiden World Cup century at the age of 21 years and 330 days, surpassing the records of Virat Kohli (22 years and 106 days) and Sachin Tendulkar (22 years and 300 days) in terms of age when they scored their first World Cup centuries.

Who youngest batter to score a WC century? 

The youngest batter to register an ODI World Cup century is Ireland’s Paul Stirling, who accomplished this feat during the 2011 edition of the tournament at the age of 20 years and 196 days.

Zadran also became the fourth youngest batter to score an ODI century against the five-time World Champions, Australia. In this regard, he overtook South African opener Quinton de Kock.

Zadran’s unbeaten knock of 129 runs, coupled with a quickfire 35 off just 17 balls, played a vital role in Afghanistan posting a total of 291/5 against Australia. This total is also the highest ever recorded by Afghanistan in a World Cup match.
