Defene exports by India recorded a record Rs 21,083 crore in the fiscal year 2023–24, marking a historic milestone. This is a noteworthy accomplishment that demonstrates the Indian defense industry’s expanding capabilities.
The goal that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has established for the future is to export defense equipment valued at more than Rs 50,000 crore by 2028–2029. This audacious objective demonstrates the government’s dedication to developing a strong local defense sector and establishing India as a key participant in the international weapons trade.
By adding more Indian-made weaponry systems to the export list, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is actively pursuing this goal. This covers equipment produced by both private and public sector businesses. The goal is to commercialize these systems aggressively on the global stage. Weapons systems currently require a specific MoD export clearance.
This procedure can take a while, particularly for private businesses. In response, the MoD is thinking of adding systems created by the private sector to a list of exports that have been previously authorized. By streamlining the procedure, Indian defense exports would become more competitive.
