In a recent test carried out by the Indian Air Force (IAF), the Sudarshan S-400 air defense missile system earned a significant victory by compelling 80% of the “enemy” fighter aircraft fleet to retreat and abort their missions.
According to defense authorities, the Indian Air Force conducted the drill in a location where one of its squadrons of the long-range air defense missile system was stationed. According to them, the Indian Air Force (IAF) carried out the drill to demonstrate the complete integration of the air defense missile system into the force.
Real fighter planes were used in the exercise to evaluate the capabilities of the S-400 weapon system, which the Indian Air Force has dubbed Sudarshan in honor of Lord Krishan’s potent Sudarshan chakra. ‘Locking on and targeting’ in simulated combat, the Sudarshan could’shoot down’ eighty percent of the ‘enemy’ attack package.
The air defence system intercepted the other planes that had abandoned their mission to “attack” their targets inside Indian territory. The system, of which three squadrons have already been inducted and two more are scheduled to be provided in 2026, has now been fully integrated by the Indian Air Force (IAF).
Russia has been asked by the Indian side to accelerate the systems’ delivery. During a high-level visit to Russia, the Indian side also asked that the Russian side send the system. A deal for over ₹ 35,000 crore was inked by Russia and India for five S-400 squadrons.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) believes that the S-400 will be a game changer, having just received the Israeli Spyder quick reaction surface-to-air missile systems and the indigenous MR-SAM and Akash missile systems. Under Project Kusha, the Indian Defence Acquisition Council recently approved the purchase of the Indian Long Range Surface Air Missile System. The project was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security prior to the development.
