Asian Games 2022: Lovlina Borgohain enters final of women’s boxing, secures Olympic berth in Paris 2024

With this victory, Lovlina Borgohain also secured an Olympic berth in Paris 2024 by reaching the final of her tournament.

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, India’s Lovlina Borgohain secured her place in the final of the women’s boxing 75kg event at the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou. She dominated her semifinal match against Thailand’s Baison Maneekon, showcasing her prowess and clinching a convincing victory.

In the fight, Borgohain took advantage of his height to avoid his opponent’s attacks, while also launching effective counter-attack hooks. The Indian boxers remained disciplined throughout the match, eventually earning a spot in the gold medal match.

Borgohain secures Olympics berth

With this victory, Lovlina Borgohain also secured an Olympic berth in Paris 2024 by reaching the final of her tournament.
Boxing at the 2023 Asian Games was also a qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In the men’s events, athletes won gold and silver medals in each of the seven weight categories. The weight class will be allocated a spot to attend Paris 2024.
For women, four quotas will apply to all weight categories beyond 66kg and 75kg, including two for men.
However, since National Olympic Committees have exclusive authority over the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes’ participation in the Paris Games depends on their selection. Their NOC to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.

From Asian Games 2022 to Olympics

So far, Indians Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar, Parveen Hooda, and Lovlina Borgohain have secured enough quota for Paris 2024 in Hangzhou.
Preeti Pawar, 19, lost her 54kg semi-final to defending champion Chang Yuan of China by unanimous decision. Preeti Pawar, who was participating in the Asian Games for the first time, secured a bronze medal and an Olympic berth by qualifying for the semi-finals.
Thanks to Preeti and Nikhat, India won two bronze medals in boxing at the 2023 Asian Games. Three other boxers Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda, and Narender Berwal were also guaranteed to reach the podium but The color of their medal has not yet been finalized.
