ODI World Cup 2023: Despite winning 6 matches India is yet to qualify for semi-final; reason HERE

However, despite their excellent performance, India has not yet mathematically secured a spot in the World Cup semi-finals.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team has been a dominant force in the ongoing ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, winning all six of their matches and currently leading the point tally with 12 points and an impressive net run rate of +1.405. In their previous encounters, India has showcased its prowess by defeating New Zealand, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Australia, and England. While India successfully chased in the first five matches, they batted first against England, securing a resounding victory by a margin of 100 runs, with England being bowled out for 129 in just 34.5 overs.

Reason why Team India not yet qualified for semi-final

However, despite their excellent performance, India has not yet mathematically secured a spot in the World Cup semi-finals. The reason for this is that several other teams, including South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Afghanistan, still have matches remaining and have the potential to reach or surpass India’s current point total.

How many points Team India need to secure semis berth

Even if India does not win any of their remaining three matches against South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands, they will still retain their 12 points. To guarantee a place in the semi-finals, India needs to win at least one of these matches to secure 14 points.

India’s prospects look promising given their current form. With formidable batters like captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul in superb form, and a formidable bowling attack featuring Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja, India remains a strong contender in the tournament.

India’s upcoming fixture

In the upcoming fixtures, India is set to face Sri Lanka on November 2, the Netherlands on November 12, and a crucial match against South Africa on November 5. The South Africa match promises to be a thrilling contest, as the South African team has lost only one match and currently occupies the second spot in the points table.

Semi-final details

Looking ahead, the World Cup 2023 semi-finals are scheduled for November 14 in Mumbai (1 vs 4) and November 16 (2 vs 3) in Kolkata, with the final set to take place on November 19 in Ahmedabad.
