U17 World Wrestling Championships: India shines with 6 medals

Mansi Lather emerged champion in the women's freestyle 73 kg category at the U17 World Wrestling Championships 2024

At the U17 World Wrestling Championships on Thursday, India’s four female wrestlers took home gold medals, making for spectacular evening.

Gold medals were won by Aditi Kumari (women’s freestyle 43 kg), Mansi Lather (women’s freestyle 73 kg), Pulkit (women’s freestyle 65 kg), and Neha Sangwan (women’s freestyle 57 kg).

India has won six medals overall in the competition thus far, with Ronak Dahiya (greco-roman 110 kg) and Sainath Pardhi (greco-roman 51 kg) sharing two bronze medals.

Jordan’s Princess Sumaya Bint al-Hasan Arena is the site of the World Championships. They will be in operation until Sunday, August 25, having begun on August 19.

Men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle, and Greco-Roman wrestling are among the competition’s disciplines where matches are held. Each discipline offers medals in ten distinct weight classes. Each weight category has four medals on offer.

There are thirty medal events in which Indian wrestlers are competing: ten in men’s freestyle wrestling, ten in women’s freestyle, and nine in greco-roman.

India won 11 medals total from the championships the year before, including one gold, seven silver, and three bronze.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini thanked Neha on social media site following her gold medal victory.

Greco-Roman: Kedar Kamble (45kg), Bikash Kacchap (48kg), Sainath Pardhi (51kg), Samarth Mhakave (55kg), Gaurav (60kg), Anuj (65kg), Sachin Kumar (71kg), Nishant Phogat (80kg), Lucky (92kg), Ronak Dahiya (110kg).
