As the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 gears up for another thrilling encounter, Bangladesh wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim has revealed the unique camaraderie he shares with India batter Virat Kohli on the field. The two teams will meet at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune, creating anticipation among cricket enthusiasts across the world.
Reason why Rahim does not sledge Virat Kohli
Rahim, who is in his fifth ODI World Cup, remembers being part of Bangladesh’s historic victory over the Men in Blue in Port of Spain in the 2007 tournament. However, what sets him and Kohli apart is their mutual respect. Rahim reveals that he refrains from sledging Kohli because he understands that the former India skipper does well in such on-field clashes.
“Some batters in the world love sledging and get pumped up by that. So I never sledge him (Virat) because he gets pumped up by that. I always tell my bowlers to get rid of him as early as possible,” Rahim shared before the much-anticipated clash with Rohit Sharma’s team.
In contrast, Kohli doesn’t hold back from engaging in friendly banter with Rahim whenever the veteran Bangladeshi batter comes to the crease against India. This camaraderie, marked by competitiveness and mutual respect, has grown over the years and adds an intriguing dimension to their encounters.
“Whenever I play against him, he always tries to sledge me every time I go in to bat because he is a really competitive guy and he doesn’t want to lose any cricket match. I really love that rivalry with him and the challenge that comes with facing him and India,” Rahim revealed.
