Dhoni may continue to lead CSK beyond IPL 2024

After leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to their fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title last year, Team India’s multiple World Cup-winning former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was widely expected to announce his retirement from competitive cricket. It would have been a storybook end to a famous career.

In addition to being signed by the squad before the player auction, “Thala” will play with the “Yellow Army” for another season. According to a close friend of his, Dhoni’s fitness may even allow him to lead the team for a few more seasons.

“I do not think this will be his (Dhoni’s) last season. He is still fit. I think he will play one or two more seasons. He will definitely play one more season. The reason is he is fit,” Dhoni’s childhood friend Paramjit Singh told the media.

The man known as “Captain Cool,” who captained India to victory in three separate ICC events, declared his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020, over a year after his final appearance for Team India in the 2019 ICC World Cup semi-final match against New Zealand. Since then, he has limited his cricketing commitments to playing for CSK for just over two months in the biggest and richest T20 league in the world.

On March 22, CSK and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will play in the inaugural IPL 2024 match at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
