The Bihar government revealed caste survey results on Monday. According to the data, which could have an impact on the Lok Sabha elections next year, the Other Backward Caste (OBC) and Extremely Backward Class (EBC) together make up 63% of the state’s population.
At a press conference in the state capital, the results of the Bihar caste-based survey were announced.
“The extremely backward class is 36.01 per cent, the general category is 15.52 per cent and the Other Backward Caste (OBC) is 27 per cent,” Vivek Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary said.
According to the Bihar caste census, the state’s population is made up of 1.68 percent of Scheduled Tribes and 19.65 percent of Scheduled Castes.
According to the Bihar caste census, the population is made up of 81.99 percent Hindus, 17.7 percent Muslims, 0.05 percent Christians, 0.01 percent Sikhs, 0.08 percent Buddhists, and 0.12 percent adherents of other religions.
According to the data, Tejashwi Yadav, the state’s deputy chief minister, is a member of the largest OBC group, the Yadavs, who make up 14.27% of the state’s population.
According to the caste study, the Kushwaha and Kurmi communities make up 4.27 percent and 2.87 percent of the population, respectively. The Kurmi community resides in the state, and Nitish Kumar is its chief minister.
The population of Bihar as a whole is more than 13 crores.
