Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), two-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have announced the inclusion of England wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt as a replacement for Jason Roy for the upcoming 2024 IPL season, which commences on March 22.

The IPL released a statement informing that Jason Roy has withdrawn from the upcoming 2024 edition due to personal reasons, prompting Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to sign Phil Salt as his replacement. Roy had joined KKR during IPL 2023 as a replacement for Shreyas Iyer, who was sidelined due to a lower back injury, and Shakib Al Hasan, who was unavailable for the season.

Salt continued to impress with the bat as he scored two consecutive hundreds in T20Is against West Indies in December last year. Notably, his knock of 119 runs off 57 balls in the fourth T20I in Trinidad marked the joint-fastest century for England and the highest individual score by an English batter in T20I cricket.

Ahead of the upcoming season, KKR will begin their main pre-season camp in Kolkata from March 15. The two-time champions will take open their campaign against 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home ground Eden Gardens on March 23.
