By 2026, Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) hopes to launch its first Grob G 180 aircraft, marking a major milestone in the country’s defence manufacturing industry. This high-altitude, twin-engine aircraft will be modified to function as an Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) platform, which is an essential tool for contemporary armed forces including the Indian Air Force (IAF).
A calculated strategic maneuver saw the German-origin Grob G 180 SPn platform, which was never put into full production, have its intellectual property rights purchased by the Tata Group in 2021. TASL intends to use this basis to design and produce a military aircraft that is native to India and meets Indian specifications.
