Team India overpowers West Indies in 3rd ODI, wins series 2-1

India vs West Indies: India thrashed the West Indies by a massive margin of 200 runs in the third ODI to win the three-match series 2-1.

The third and final match of the 3-match ODI series between India and West Indies was played on August 1 at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad. It was the series decider at the two teams were locked at 1-1. India had won the first ODI before West Indies claimed victory in the second match to draw level.

 

Amazing start by Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill

West Indies captain Shay Hope won the toss and decided to bowl first. Young openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill gave Team India’s innings a wonderful start.

Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill put together an opening partnership of 143 runs before the former was stumped off the bowling of Yannic Cariah. Gill was also dismissed on 85 soon after.

 

Sanju, Hardik Surya shine

After Ishaan Kishan and Shubman Gill, the seniors also joined the party. Experienced wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, captain Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav batted explosively. Sanju scored 51 runs in 41 balls with the help of 2 fours and 5 sixes.

Hardik played a quick fire unbeaten innings of 70 runs off just 52 balls, which saw 5 sixes and 4 boundaries flow from his bat. Suryakumar, who came out to bat in the lower middle order, scored 35 runs off 30 balls, hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes along the way.

Team India put up a total of 351/5 in their 50 overs to set a difficult target for the hosts. Pacer Romario Shepherd took 2 wickets for the West Indies to emerge as the most successful bowler for the hosts. Alzarri Joseph, Gudakesh Moti and Yannick picked up a wicket each.

 

West Indies suffer batting collapse

The Indian team then went on to dominate the West Indies with the ball. The West Indies were all for just 151 runs in 35.3 overs as India won by 200 runs to clinch the series.

Alyque Athanje was the highest scorer for the West Indies with a patient 32 runs off 50 balls. Fast bowler Shardul Thakur returned figures of 4/37 to emerge as the highest wicket taker for India. Rookie seamer Mukesh Kumar also enjoyed a successful outing with figures of 3/30.

Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets while pacer Jaydev Unadkat picked up the wicke of Keacy Carty.

India 351/5 (Shubman Gill 85, Ishan Kishan 77; Romario Shepherd 2-73) beat West Indies 151 (Gudakesh Motie 39 not out, Alick Athanaze 32; Shardul Thakur 4/37, Mukesh Kumar 3-30) by 200 runs.
